When We Cannot Understand

"The secret things belong to The Lord our God…" Deuteronomy 29:29

To live with an entitled attitude is to decide to live in constant disappointment. The Lord, God, doesn't owe us anything.  Some say, "How could a loving God?" with an expectation that God should have given them what they wanted, or a favorable outcome. God's will is seldom accomplished on the earth. He created all we see and know, including mankind, and yet there are human disasters and natural disasters more often than we realize. When bad things happen, they are not "acts of God," although insurance companies often refer to natural disasters as "acts of God."

We see God's will when He created Adam and Eve and placed them in a garden with such perfection that there weren't even thorns or mosquitoes, much less volcanoes or hurricanes. Sin hadn't entered into the world, so there was no sickness, or bloodshed – everything was flawless. Sin affects everything in our world and everything in our lives. Psalm 51:5 says, "…I was shapen in iniquity in my mother's womb…" (KJV). King David is expressing that even those who are unborn aren't safe from the influence sin has on the earth.

The mysteries, or "secret things" as Deuteronomy 29:29 says, belong to our God – there are many things so complex our intellects cannot process or understand. When we're faced with these complex situations, our minds race to understand why, but if we're living a life surrendered to The Father, He will lead us to trust Him.

I've lived through loss, death, devastating disappointments, and heartbreak, and I can tell you without reservation that God is faithful and trustworthy. I don't understand why many things have happened the way they have, but I know The Lord, and He wouldn't allow anything without a specific and productive reason.  My older sister passed away when she was 15 years old after a year of terrible illness; I don't understand why, but I trust The Lord – I know He rescued her and protected her from worse things. Romans 8:28 says, "…for we know that all things work together for the good of those who love The Lord, those called according to His purpose." I have seen good come from terrible things, just as The Lord said.

It's The Lord's will for you and I to live in a beautiful place with no sin or sickness, where no disasters can harm us, but sin has taken this option away for now. However, when we leave this world, if we believe that Jesus is the Son of God and have asked Him to forgive us of our sins, He will take us to be with Him for all eternity, where everything is perfect, that's His will.

"Precious in the sight of The Lord is the death of His saints."  Psalm 116:15
