“Put on your new nature and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like Him.”
Colossians 3:10
Through the ages, God has given many miracles in which He immediately changes a situation: a missing limb suddenly appears, blind eyes are opened, and circumstances change in an instant. There are many more miraculous works of God that are brought about through processes, such as becoming like God, becoming a new person, and becoming transformed. The Children of Israel spent forty years in the desert wilderness learning to trust God and become His children. Personally, I’ve spent the past 54 years becoming the believer I am today, and I’m not finished learning and becoming like Christ.
“Put on your new nature and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like Him.”
Colossians 3:10
“Put on your new nature…” The Lord has made you a new person through Salvation, but some parts of your character still need further shaping. If we ask The Holy Spirit to help us change some of our more stubborn ways, He will give us the strength and ability to overcome our old ways.
“This means anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old is gone, a new life has begun!” 2 Corinthians 5:17
“…and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator…” “Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our mind.” Romans 12:2
To be renewed is to change the way we think; the pattern of this world will not lead us to knowing our Creator. If we allow The Lord to change our thinking, we can learn to know our Creator in new and wonderful ways.
“…and become like Him.” “We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of The Father, we too may live a new life.”
Romans 6:4 When we become like The Lord, the person we were before is buried with Him in baptism so that we can be raised to live a new life in Christ and bring glory and honor to God our Father. When we honor and glorify God, we are satisfied, fulfilled, and happy.
I have a framed statement an old friend gave me many years ago: “When we go through the fiery trials of life, we can rest assured of two things: God’s eye is on the clock and His hand is on the thermostat.” Going through processes can be exhausting; we can become so tired of experiencing the same tests over and over, the same failures, the same pain. God tests us to show us where we are in the journey. If we’re ready to overcome, put on our new nature, be renewed, become like Him, then focus on these things in prayer. Look up scriptures about the area where you struggle. If you need gentleness, peace, deliverance, or to be more loving, ask The Holy Spirit for exactly what you need – He will help you. We can ask The Lord for absolutely ANYTHING we need. He will not withhold any good thing from you. A life focused on becoming like Christ is the richest, most fulfilled life we can live. Enjoy the process of becoming new!
