Is God’s will always done? Is what happens on the earth and in our lives always what God wants? In recent years, I’ve heard several say, “It happened, so we know it’s God’s will.” I want to share some scriptures to show how there are times when God’s will cannot be altered or stopped and how many times God’s will isn’t done.
In Isaiah 9:6, for example, The Lord gives a prophecy of the coming Savior of the world to Isaiah and, says,
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; And the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
The enemy, Satan, tried to stop the Savior’s birth (in Matthew 2:16-18) by working through Herod to kill all the male babies who were under two years old, but nothing can thwart the plans of The Lord. In instances such as Jesus coming into the world and Him returning for His bride (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17), nothing can stop God’s will from being done.
John 3:16 says,
“For God so loved the world He sent His only Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” This is the clearest definition of God’s will I can find. Does everyone believe in Him? Does everyone have everlasting life? Sadly, no, God’s will isn’t always done.
Some events and things are God’s will that nothing can stop, and terrible things happen to good people that break God’s heart. When sin entered the world, mankind allowed the perfect world God created for us to become hostile and tainted in every way with evil.
When we’re tempted to blame The Lord God, remember that He made a paradise for Adam and Eve; they chose to disobey and open doors for things that were against God’s will to come into the earth. Our sin continues to allow evil to reign in the world God made, but the foundation of our faith is that God is good.
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
James 1:17
God's will is always done in heaven; until we're there with The Lord, it's our job to pray and ask for His will to be done here, as it is in heaven (Matthew chapter 6).
